Writing Prompts - May 2026

Prompts:

I have put four suggestions below. However, you can submit whatever you like - it doesn't have to be inspired by one of these prompts:

1. Green [This is the theme for the story, not necessarily the title]

2. Isabel was born the same year the king died …. [you have to include this sentence somewhere in your story]

3. A story with one of the following titles: ‘The nurse’, ‘The postman’, ‘The frog’ or ’The clown’.

4. Write a story set in one of the following: a) a beach,  b) a snowy mountain summit,  c) the top of the Eiffel Tower,  d) a desert,  e) a cinema,  or f) a call centre.

5. Tell a story entirely in dialogue.

GALLERY - May 2026

 GALLERY

The following pictures were all done using acrylic pens or watercolour. They are intended to be deliberately naive in style, and were all sketchbook experiments. I am trying to build up to doing some more serious paintings, which I haven't done for a while.

Little House 1 - mostly watercolour. It's a pity the garage has a pond immediaely in front of it and no drive so it can't actually be used to store cars! Also, it has a little ticket shed at front, which I liked the idea of.

Little House 2 - mostly acrylic paint pen. I don't like the ugly tree thing to the right of the house.

Doodle - metallic acrylic paint pens and ink. I like this one, particularly in real life as it shines beautifully and the colours work together.

Doodle - watercolour and acrylic paint pens.. This was an experiment with layering but I spoiled it by adding the white-ish circles on top - it was a step too far and I might have to adjust them.

Rectangles - metallic paint pens. This was an experiment in using dots and white on metallic.

Flying carpets - metallic paint pens and ink. This was a very quick doodle to try out some new pens and I quite liked the effect.
